Fair trade in our local area??

'Food' for thought.......

Where does fairtrade exist in our area?
Do we support/discourage fairtrade in our area?
Who has the biggest say when it comes to fairtrade within our community?
How could fairtrade be promoted in our area?fairtrade
Have you ever seen fairtrade food in our local supermarket?
What about the clothes we wear, are they fairtrade products?
Have you ever eaten a fairtrade product?
Do fairtrade products look or taste differently to other products?
What companies support fairtrade?
What companies discourage or neglect  in search for profit?
What organisations are pivotal in the fight for fairtrade?

W.A.L.T

Today we are going to be learning about the companies and organisations, that are present in our community, and their relationship with fairtrade. The class will be broken up into six groups. Two groups will research the organisation Fair Trade Ireland, another two will take Starbucks while the final two groups will examine Cadburys.

What to do........

The goal of this research will be to present a photo story to the class. In your groups you will combine your previous related knowledge along with all the new found knowledge you gain from researching the provided websites. You can also use our child friendly search engine www.kidrex.org to further your knowledge if need be. Areas to consider:
  • How this company/organisation benefits fair trade?
  • How this company/organisation discourages fair trade (in the past perhaps)?
  • What is being done at present to promote fair trade?
  • The consequences of this company/organisation's involvement in fair trade issues?

In order to complete your photo story you can use Google images to find appropriate images to add to your photo story or you can also take images from the provided websites. We all know how to use Photo Story 3 but in case we forget you can check out the easy to follow video and document below. Don't forget to add sound and voice over to our photo stories. Here is an example of a photo story to remind us all, think how this photo story could be improved?
